'I don't really have girlfriends': Why Angelina Jolie doesn't make time for other women

By Rachel Marlowe

Stunner: Angelina Jolie looks gorgeous as she poses in the cover of the latest issue of Marie Claire magazine

With beauty, wealth and a gorgeous family, Angelina Jolie seems to have it all.

But the actress has confessed there is at least one thing missing in her life - female friends.

In an interview with the new issue of U.S. Marie Claire, she spoke frankly to the magazine about her lack of female confidantes.

'It was nice for me to play with other girls; I don't really have girlfriends in movies, if you've noticed, ' she said.

'Well, I have a few girlfriends, I just... I stay at home a lot. I'm just not very social. I don't do a lot with them, and I'm very homebound.'

The actress, director and mother-of six, who looks stunning in a blue top and gold statement ring, has previously bemoaned the fact that she really only chats with her partner, Brad Pitt.

'I'll talk to my family,' said the actress, 'I talk to Brad ... But I don't know, I don't have a lot of friends I talk to. He is really the only person I talk to.

Angelina's reputation as the ultimate man-eater and husband-stealer may account for her lack of gal pals.

She famously enticed Brad away from his wife, Jennifer Aniston, and Angelina’s second husband Billy Bob Thornton broke off his engagement to Laura Dern to elope with his Pushing Tin co-star.

Multi-tasker: The actress and mother of 6 made her directorial debut this month with In the Land of Blood and Honey, her film about the war in Bosnia

One of the few close female friends that is not deterred by Angelina's reputation is singer Gwen Stefani.

Earlier this year the A-listers were spied with Gwen Stefani getting together at Gwen's home in London for a fun-filled playdate .

'All of the kids are very close in age. They've attended each other's birthday parties and gotten together several times at each other's homes,' a source to Yahoo news at the time.

The pair have been friends since 1998. 'Somehow Gwen and I keep ending up pregnant at the exact same time,' Jolie has explained.

Black tie: Angelina looked chic in a velvet tuxedo-style suit as she went out for dinner in New York

Best known for action films such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Wanted, Angelina also reveals that she may want to move on from acting.

'I woke up one day realizing, God, I'm an actor,' she said, 'I don't think I intended to be an actor. I think my mother wanted it for me.

'I loved telling stories, and I enjoyed the profession, but is it too late to be something else?'

Calling the shots: Angelina revealed in the interview that she may want to move away from acting

When asked whether she and partner Brad Pitt were planning to extend their already considerable brood, she would only say: 'Nothing planned at the moment, but we just don't know. I could end up pregnant."

And Angelina credits Brad with helping her juggle her career with raising children.

'I have a wonderful partner in Brad and we take turns working always,' she said in the interview

The star also touched on the subject of her children wanting her to marry long-term love Brad, 47.

'They have mentioned it, yes,' she admitted.

Mr & Mrs: Angelina is still reluctant to marry her partner, actor Brad Pitt

She also opened up about her daughter Vivienne being a 'girly girl', divulging; 'She is so elegant and delicate. Vivi will pick flowers from the garden and put them in her hair.'

'She likes to get her nails done and collects stuffed animals'

She added: 'It's very funny for me to have to buy all things pink and watch princess movies!'

'Knox' she says however, 'is very much a dude. Very physical, tough. He loves dinosaurs and swords

Family outing: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie took their six children to FAO Schwarz in New York yesterday

She also gushed about her happiness saying: 'Brad has expanded my life in ways I never imagined. We built a family. He is not just the love of my life, he is my family. I hold that very dear.

'I suppose what I’ve learned from Brad is to be able to have the kind of family whose happiness and well-being comes before your own.'

'I’m very, very grateful to have such a loving family, and I wouldn’t have that without him.'

Director's cut: Angelina has been heavily promoting her new project which will be in cinemas later this month

Speaking about the subject of her film Jolie said: 'I think it's still hard to understand what happened and how it could happen 40 minutes away from Italy in the '90s at the time Schindler's List came out."

Explaining the inspiration for the movie she said: 'It began as a private exercise, an excuse to get out some of my frustrations wthe international community and justice issues.'

'Some of the very darkest sections of the film were conceived in Shiloh's art class; I was in the back waiting for the kids to finish,' she added darkly.

The Hollywood star has also revealed she plans to do another war film focusing on Afghanistan, where she made humanitarian trips to recently.

In the Land of Blood and Honey is is scheduled to be released in the United States on December 23.

The new issue of Marie Claire is on newsstands Tuesday December 13.

'She was grace incarnate': Angelina Jolie chokes back tears as she opens up about her late mother Marcheline Bertrand

-Also revealed she wanted to be an undertaker
-Her advice to other parents: 'Never work at the same time'

By Mike Larkin

Choking up: Angelina Jolie fought back tears as she talked about her mother Marcheline Bertrand on 60 Minutes tonight

She is famed for her ever expanding brood of children with her A-list husband Brad Pitt.

But big-hearted Angelina Jolie has revealed she believes she will never live up to the standards set by her own mother Marcheline Bertrand.

The Oscar-winning actress revealed her admiration for her parent - who died at the age of 56 in 2007 following an eight-year battle with ovarian cancer - and choked back tears as she told how talking about her is her 'soft spot'.

Talking about her parent's self-sacrificing nature on 60 Minutes, she said: 'My mother was a full-time mother.

'She didn't have much of her own career, her own life, her own experiences. Everything was for her children.

'I will never be as good a mother as she was. She was just grace incarnate. She was the most generous, loving – she's better than me'

Marcheline was married to Angelina's father Jon Voight from 1971 to 1980, and despite studying under famed acting teacher Lee Strasberg, she concentrated on her family rather than her career.

Angelina has three biological children with Brad Pitt: Shiloh, 5, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 3. They also have three adoptive children: Maddox, 10, Pax, 8, and Zahara, 6.

And the Tomb Raider star has learned from her mother's example, as she arranges her schedule carefully alongside her husband so only one of them is ever working.
She said: 'No we never work at the same time.'

Tearful: Angelina closed her eyes to stop herself from crying during her high-profile interview

Strong memories: Angelina showed 60 Minutes reporter Bob Simon her desktop background was a picture of her beloved mother

Angelina added her favourite time is when she is at home with the children, and said the reason other mothers wish they could be making movies like her is 'because it's easier.'

The interview did take a more macabre turn when she revealed she had a back-up plan in case her acting career failed.

She is launching a new career as a director, but has admitted she she once planned a directorial profession of a different kind - as an undertaker.

A brave undertaking: Even Angelina couldn't resist having a giggle as she recalled her funeral studies

She had actually taken courses in the subject, and said: 'It sounds like this very strange, eccentric, dark thing to do but in fact I lost my grandfather and was very upset with his funeral.

'How somebody passes and how family deals with this passing and what death is should be addressed in a different way.

'If this whole acting thing didn't work out that was going to be my path.'

And she had been deadly serious about the profession, even getting a certificate in the subject.

She said: 'I thought I could do better, so I got a home course when I was about 14. I did a mail-order degree.'

A good spot for a funeral: No doubt Angelina's trained eye would determine there was plenty of space here to bury a coffin

Angelina also claimed that things people read about her in gossip magazines are far removed from who she really is.

She said they are missing 'Me,' adding: 'I don't see those things. I don't know who they are but I assume they're not me.

They're not who I am. They're not what I spend my day caring about.
'I find them quite shallow and often quite wrong.'

Angelina also said she cannot belive she is making her directorial debut with unlikely Bosnian War love story In the Land of Blood and Honey, which she also wrote.

She said: 'I still think it's crazy. I think I'd be terrible with a comedy.'

'I'd be awful at comedies': Angelina dropped another bombshell during her interview session with hunky newsman Bob

And she admitted she did not realise it would be so controversial with people from the country.

She said: 'I did not realise it was going to be be as sensitive. Everything was something to be careful about and sensitive.'

And she admits she is worried about how it will be received, but denied it was a risky move.

She said: 'I am nervous that people are not going to understand it.

'What's risky? Is living your life never trying for anything, never trying anything brave? I'm scared in a good way.'

Changing faces: Angelina as a troubled model in 1998's Gia and as Lara Croft in 2001's Tomb Raider

Life imitating art: Angelina fell in love with Brad Pitt while filming 2005's Mr and Mrs Smith, which was a big hit despite mixed reviews

The A-lister also said she would prefer to only direct from now on.

She said: 'I prefer directing. I loved having the spotlight on someone else. I would much prefer it.

'It's nice for all of that [her appearance] not to matter.'

And while she usually shies away from mentioning her past, she also admitted she had very wild days.

She even claimed she is lucky to be alive, given what she put herself through in her youth.

Bad to the bone: Angelina Jolie opens up to 60 minutes and confesses that she's still 'a bad girl'

She said: 'I'm still a bad girl. I still have that side of me.

'it's just in its place now.it belong to Brad], or, our adventures.'

The sexy star also claimed she is lucky to be alive given her racy past.

'I went through heavier, darker times and I survived them. I didn't die young.'

Wild side: The 36-year-old says that she's lucky to be alive given her racy past

In the Land of Milk and Honey: CBS correspondent Bob Simon visits the actress in Budapest

She added: 'So I am very lucky. There are other artists and people that didn't survive certain things.

People can imagine that I did the most dangerous, and I did the worst.

'For many reasons, I shouldn't be here.'

'You just, too many times where you came close to too many dangerous things, too many chances taken too, too far.'

Her wild side has been highly documented and visible in the past.

In addition to her plethora of tattoos, she was once famous for dating co-stars and famously wore then-husband Billy Bob Thornton's blood in a vial around her neck.

She also gave brother James Haven a passionate kiss on the lips at the 2000 Academy Awards and has spoken publicly about bisexual trysts.

She had a lesbian love affair with her Foxfire co-star Jenny Shimizu, of whom she has said: 'I would probably have married Jenny if I hadn't married my [first] husband [Jonny Lee Miller].'

The now-painfully thin star is known for her humanitarian efforts and her gigantic brood of children.

She is now attempting to make her name as a director with the upcoming film In the Land of Blood and Honey.

The actress also wrote the film, which is a dark love story set during the Bosnian war in the early 1990s.

'I'm still a bad girl, but now that side of me belongs to Brad': Angelina Jolie reveals she's lucky to be alive after 'dark and dangerous' youth

By Laura Schreffler

Bad to the bone: Angelina Jolie opens up to 60 minutes and confesses that she's still 'a bad girl'

She usually shies away from mentioning her past, but Angelina Jolie is finally coming clean about her wild child days.

The 36-year-old actress says that she's lucky to be alive, given what she put herself through in her youth.

She also says that her dark, sexy side of her still exists, but that only partner Brad Pitt is special enough to see it.

'I'm still a bad girl,' the Oscar winner tells CBS News correspondent Bob Simon. 'I still have that side of me...it's just in its place now...it belong to Brad [Pitt], Or...our adventures.'

In the interview, which will air this Sunday on 60 Minutes, Jolie also says she's lucky to be alive given her racy past.

'I went through heavier, darker times and I survived them. I didn't die young,' she tells Simon during the interview, which was held in Budapest.

She adds: 'So I am very lucky. There are other artists and people that didn't survive certain things... people can imagine that I did the most dangerous, and I did the worst... for many reasons, I shouldn't be here.'

'You just... too many times where you came close to too many dangerous things, too many chances taken too, too far.'

Although she has likely done more than anyone can imagine, her wild side has been highly documented and very visible in the past.

Is painfully thin Angelina Jolie surviving on just 600 calories a day?

By Deborah Arthurs

As she prepared to board a plane in Vietnam with her six children, Angelina's thin frame was further accentuated by her loose-fitting dress

As she prepared to board her private jet after a family trip to Vietnam last week, it seemed to onlookers as though Angelina Jolie was thinner than ever.

Wearing a loose-fitting red dress knotted around her waist that emphasised the bones on her spine and her ultra-skinny arms, Angelina's already very slender frame seemed painfully thin.

Her weight is said to hover around the 97lb mark - underweight for her 5ft 8in height.

Regardless of her emaciated frame though, sources say Angelina rarely eats a full meal and frequently forgets to eat.

According to Grazia magazine, Angelina survives on as little as 600 calories a day, which is the equivalent of two bowls of cereal with milk.

'Angelina has been known to start her day with little more than a spoonful of coconut oil and a handful of cereal,' a source told Grazia last week.

'The worrying thing is that she is so busy, she often forgets to eat.

Sometimes she'll skip lunch altogether or will just grab a few almonds and some gummy bears while she's on the go, or will have a protein-based shake rather than anything more substantial.

'Then dinner could be something like a lean steak and a glass of red wine.'

Sources say Angelina's stressful lifestyle causes her to lose her appetite

Angelina's fluctuating weight has been well documented, with her slender frame becoming painfully thin during difficult emotional times in her life.

The actress was forced to defend her waif-like frame in 2007, when her weight plummeted following the death of her mother Marcheline.

At the time, she said: 'I have always been lean, and this year I lost my mum and I've gone through a lot.

'Instead of people saying I look like a person dealing with something emotionally, they assume it's because I want to fit into skinny jeans.'

But while in 2007 the weight loss was put down to Angelina's mourning process, this time round reports suggest her battles with food have come as a result of her frenetic lifestyle, which requires constant work to balance work, children, travel and, of course, her relationship with Brad.

Angelina's fluctuating weight has been well documented

But while their union has been blighted by rumour of late - are they splitting, aren't they splitting? - Brad Pitt said in an interview with Parade magazine that the two were stronger than ever.

'One of the greatest, smartest things I ever did was give my kids Angie as their mum,' he said.

'She is such a great mum. Oh man, I'm so happy to have her.'

Despite this show of unity though - Angelina has flown with the couple's children across the world to be with Brad while he publicises his film - Angelina continues to lose weight.

Angelina and Brad have had to endure endless rumours about the state of their relationship - the stress of which could be contributing to her weight loss

The Grazia source said: What with her career, Brad and their six kids, Angelina has a lot on. Yes, stress plays a part. She is the type of person who drops weight when she's stressed out.

'She simply loses her appetite and can survive on almost nothing. But a lot of people are worried that she is taking things too far and that she won't have the strength to do all the things she wants to do if she doesn't gain some weight.

'Everyone has been begging her to eat more and she is trying not to get any skinnier, but unfortunately she just doesn't seem to be putting on any more weight.'

Pictured for the first time: Brangelina and their whole globe-trotting brood arriving in Vietnam

By J J Anisiobi

Home time: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and children leaving the Con Dao Island Airport in Vietnam yesterday, with Pax in the foreground

Another day another destination for the Brangelina clan.

The globe-trotting super family were spotted arriving at Vietnam's Con Dao Island Airport on Friday afternoon bringing a little bit of Hollywood glamour to the area.

The Hollywood superstars were both dressed in all white outfits with Brad, 47, wearing a dark white blazer jacket and matching trousers with white trainers and a v-neck t-shirt.

Angelina, 36, matched her husband and wore a very similar white trouser suit made of linen.

They shepherded Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne through the arrivals lounge, while excited Pax ran on ahead clutching a giant purple teddy bear.

The family all piled into a mini van where Brad could be seen making sure his three-year-old son Knox had his seatbelt on.

Big brood: Angelina, Brad and their assistants shepherd their children through the arrivals lounge

Angelina told the Financial Times earlier this year: 'We owe Vietnam a visit, because Pax is due.'

The trip marks Pax's first visit back to his native country since the Jolie-Pitts adopted him at the age of three.

'They are all learning about each other's cultures as well as being proud of their own,' she added to the newspaper.

'They all have their flags over their beds and their individual pride.'

Family trip: Brangelina make their way from the airport to a mini van

Home sweet home: Pax holds on tightly to a teddy bear as Angelina and Brad get into the mini-van

And the stars of Mr and Mrs Smith took their son back to Ho Chi Minh City for a visit in a bid to make sure Pax stays in touch with his cultural heritage.

Later, Angelina and Brad sampled some of the Ho Chi Minh's culinary delights as they took Pax for a Vietnamese meal at a city restaurant.

They are reported to have eaten at a rustic restaurant famous for their traditional food.

Buckle up: Brad fastens in his children before they begin their journey

Angelina looked simply elegant in a blue off the shoulder dress and over sized sunglasses, while Pax looked casual in a shorts and a T-shirt.

Her actor partner opted for a casual look in a white jacket and sunglasses as he left the restaurant.

The couple, who have three biological children and three adopted, have always said they want their brood to remain in touch with their home countries.

Maddox, seven, was adopted from an orphanage in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and Jolie runs the charitable Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation which supports orphans in the country.

Daughter Zahara, who was adopted from Ethiopia in 2005, has been back to visit her home country with her mother saying she planned to build an AIDS clinic in the country.

In 2008 Angelina said: 'We will be building a Tuberculosis/AIDS clinic in Ethiopia. The one we plan for Zahara to take over when she is older.'

Although the couple had remained tight-lipped on what they would do on their visit to Vietnam, it was thought that they may pay a visit to Pax's orphanage.

By Sarah Fitzmaurice

She has been a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees for over ten years and during that time she has brought up her brood and made some killer hit films.

But it appears that Angelina Jolie,36, just can't say no to taking on new projects and is set to take on a new role in the refugee crises.

It appears that the mother-of-six will now take become a Special Representative and will work with governments of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran on the refugee issue.

More responsibilities: Angelina Jolie delivered a speech at the 62th UNHCR Executive Committee in Geneva where she spoke about taking on a new role

Speaking in front of the 62th UNHCR Executive Committee Angelina said: ‘We are looking at a few countries in the world.

‘We're hoping to discuss it in the next few weeks but we want to research it properly and do it well.’

U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres, said that Jolie would be his ‘special envoy’ for dramatic situations ‘in order to mobilise strong international support.’

The mother-of-six is set to become a Special Representative and will work with governments of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran on the refugee issue, seen with UNHCR Ambassador Hisham Badr

Stylish ambassador: Angelina, who has been a goodwill ambassador for the UNCHR for ten years looked stylish in her all-black ensemble

Jolie told diplomats and officials with the refugee agency that her work for them has been ‘moving, sometimes heartbreaking, but always rewarding, and unforgettable.’

She described the refuges she has met as ‘the most vulnerable people in the world, and they are also the most resilient people in the world.

She added: ‘Refugees are survivors, they are mothers and daughters and fathers and sons, they are all extraordinary people who have a remarkable story that tells of strength in the face of great loss. They need our help more than ever.’

Heaven scent: Yesterday Angelina presented the Nansen prize and looked angelic in a white gown

Vocal ladies: While Angelina was speaking in Geneva, Brad Pitt's ex wife Jennifer Aniston was giving a talk about her film Five in Washington yesterday

On Monday Angelina appeared as a surprise guest in Geneva wearing a heavenly gown to present Yemen's Society for Humantiarianism Solidarity and its founder, Nasser Salim Ali Al-Hamair, with an award.

And Angelina wasn't the only one to be making a speech but Brad Pitt's ex-wife Jennifer Aniston also took to the stage to speak about her latest film Five in Washington.

Jolie is celebrating her 10th year as UNHCR goodwill ambassador during which she has made more than 40 visits to trouble spots.

On Monday she made a heartfelt appeal for help for people fleeing war-torn Somalia who cross the Gulf of Aden in overcrowded smugglers' boats.

Big brood: Despite having a large brood with Brad Pitt Angelina still manages to juggle her other roles

The mother-of-six said: 'I’m so grateful to the many refugee families that I have had the honour and privilege to spend the last years with. From them I’ve learned so much. I’ve learned to become a better person, a better mother. They’ve inspired me by showing me every day the unbreakable strength of the human spirit.'

'The staff of the Society for Humanitarian Solidarity often risk their own lives, pulling people from the seas. Sadly and all too often they also bury the dead. But there is no doubt there would be far fewer survivors if it were not for the Society for Humanitarian Solidarity and the team's devotion to humanity. We thank them.'

Now that's a cool gang! Angelina Jolie takes her cuties for a playdate with Gwen Stefani's boys

By Daily Mail Reporter

Power playdate: Angelina Jolie visits Gwen Stefani's North London home with her children. Gwen's son Kingston (left) was born the day after Angelina's daughter Shiloh (centre)

Angelina Jolie and Gwen Stefani bonded in 2006 after giving birth within a day of each other.

And it seems their low-key friendship still runs strong.

The Tourist actress was spotted taking some of her brood for a playdate at the pop star's London home today.

The 36-year-old, who is in the city while her partner Brad Pitt shoots his new film World War Z, arrived at the Primrose Hill abode with Zahara, 6, Shiloh, 5, and 3-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox in tow.

She gently encouraged her tentative charges out of the car and inside the property and later sent her security guard off to collect dinner from the local Wagamama noodle restaurant.

The No Doubt star's son Kingston was born the day before Shiloh, while her youngest Zuma is now the same age Angelina's twins.

The Hollywood mothers are said to have a firm friendship, which has largely played out away from the cameras.

A fun time had by all: Zahara (centre left) and Vivienne (centre right) left with craft boxes

Thanks for coming! Gwen's son Kingston, who was sporting face paint, was on hand to wave off their guests

Gwen, 41, joined Angelina and Brad for a celebratory dinner in May after the premiere of his film Tree of Life at the Cannes Film Festival.

And Brad and Gwen's husband Gavin Rossdale have bonded too - in 2006, soon after the births of Shiloh and Kingston, they spent the Fourth of July weekend jet skiing and riding quad bikes together.

Gwen's family split their time between the U.S. and U.K. while Angelina is expected to stay in London until Brad's film wraps up.

While Brad's away the family will play: Angelina Jolie takes the brood to Legoland

By Andrea Magrath

Day out: Angelina Jolie was spotted taking her children to Legoland in Windsor yesterday

The Jolie-Pitt brood have made the UK their temporary home while Brad films his blockbuster World War Z.

And so while the actor had to jet back to the US to attend a film premiere, his family were happy to remain behind.

Angelina Jolie kept the children entertained during their father's absence by taking them for a day at Legoland in Windsor yesterday.

The actress, 36, was accompanied by two bodyguards as she toured at the amusement park with the kids.

Zahara, Shiloh and Knox were spotted with their mother on one of the rides.

The Salt star looked chic in an all-black ensemble of jeans, a jumper and ankle boots.

Pitt, 47, flew out to attend the premiere of Moneyball in Oakland, California on Monday night.

Quality time: Angelina looked chic n an all-black ensemble and spent some alone time with youngest son Knox, who carried a toy sword

He and Angelina spent some last-minute alone time over the weekend with lunch in London without their children.

Brad also found time to visit the Ellen show during his quick trip and discussed family life and the possibility of marriage.

Despite Angelina recently hinting that a wedding could be on the cards after the children started asking for them to tie the knot, Brad told Ellen DeGeneres that they still want to wait until gay marriage is legalised across the US.

Where'd the rest of them go? Jolie and Knox stopped for snacks but the rest of the brood were nowhere to be seen

'We live in this great country that is about freedoms, that's defined by our freedoms and equality, and yet, we allow this discrimination to go on every day,' he said. 'That's not what we're about, that's not what makes us great. And until that is reversed, I just don't get it. It makes no sense to me.'

Talking about his superized family, the actor joked: 'Did you ever see the movie [One Flew Over] the Cuckoo's Nest? That's morning time in our house.'

Pitt gushed about his partner during a recent interview with Parade magazine, claiming 'one of the greatest, smartest things I ever did was give my kids Angie as their mom. She is such a great mom. Oh, man, I’m so happy to have her.'
