When she agreed to be inked with a henna tattoo on an official visit to Tanzania last week, the Duchess of Cornwall was assured that it would only last a day or two.

Unfortunately nine days later she is still trying to scrub the thing off.

On an engagement at Clarence House on behalf of the Unicorn children’s theatre, the elaborately swirled inking could still clearly be seen on her left hand.

Asked about it by the Mail, Prince Charles’s wife exclaimed: ‘The less said about that the better!

‘I didn’t feel that I could refuse and it was rather beautiful but then, after I had it done, this lady put her hand on mine and splodged it everywhere.

'I just can’t get it off. I have tried scrubbing and everything…nailbrushes, you name it. I just don’t know what to do.’

The Duchess said she was particularly keen to rid her hand of the marking as she has a series of very public engagements coming up, including a lavish state banquet at Buckingham Palace thrown by the Queen in honour of the Turkish President where tiaras are a more traditional form of adornment.

Henna is a traditional dye made from the leaves of the mignonette tree that binds with keratin in the skin to form a semi-permanent marking.

As the dye bonds with several layers of skin, the only way to remove it is to remove it by careful but prolonged exfoliation.

Others suggest going for a swim as the chlorine can help lighten it or rubbing at it with alcohol or a whitening toothpaste.

Otherwise, you have no choice but to wait for it to fade.

The Duchess received her tattoo on a whistle-stop tour to the paradise island of Zanzibar.

She agreed to be inked during a visit to Old Fort in Stone Town, the capital of the spice island.

She threw a reception for the Unicorn children’s theatre in London today, of which she is patron, at her London residence.

The Unicorn is the UK’s leading theatre for young audiences and has launched an award in the name of one of its staunchest supporters, the actress Joanna David, an old friend of the Duchess.

Camilla revealed that she regularly takes her children and now grand-children to watch their productions.

‘I took all five of my grandchildren to see the Mole In The Hole last year and despite temporarily losing Lola [her son Tom’s four-year-old daughter], it was an absolute joy. They sat absolutely spellbound. It really is the best children’s theatre in the world. And if it wasn’t for Joanna the Unicorn probably wouldn’t be here today,’ she said.

Miss David was accompanied by her actor husband, Edward Fox, and children Emilia and Freddie, who are also in the business.

Silent Witness star Emilia said: ‘It is so wonderful that mum is getting some recognition for what she has done. She is the most modest person I know but has worked her socks off for the Unicorn.’

Spooky style: Glee costume designer Lou Eyrich sported a hair-raising look at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards yesterday


She is an award-winning costume designer who is famed for her eye-catching creations on hit TV show Glee.

But Lou Eyrich showed off a somewhat different style when she turned up to an awards show yesterday.

The designer sported a rather bizarre head tattoo as she arrived at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.


The look featured thick strands of black pseudo hair that covered her whole head.
It was a far cry from the more flattering blonde quiff hairstyle she sported back in February.

She topped off the rather strange style with a black dress, sunglasses and a wine coloured parasol, perhaps to protect her bare head from the sun.

Her new style would have made her fit in well as a guest star on Glee's highest rated episode - the Thriller-themed episode drew 27 million viewers which followed on from the Superbowl.

Lou has previously discussed how much she enjoys working on Glee, which has made style icons out of stars such as Dianna Agron and Lea Michele.

'For me, personally, just seeing the effect that it has on people - I've never worked on a show that has brought people so much joy,' she said recently.

'And then also one with more controversial topics that it brings it to the light.

Then again, I think that [show creator] Ryan Murphy is always good at making those social images, social issues come to light in a beautiful way.'

Yesterday, Gwyneth Paltrow represented Glee by taking home an award for Outstanding Best Actress in a Comedy series for her role as teacher Holly Holliday, though she did not attend in person.

HBO's Prohibition-era drama Boardwalk Empire and HBO were the top winners at yesterday's awards which took place at the Nokia Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles.

The event mainly consists of technical categories including picture editing, costuming, hairstyling, makeup, lighting and sound.

Justin Timberlake was named Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for hosting the season finale of Saturday Night Live, while Boardwalk Empire was the top programme after scooping seven gongs.

Super slim Lindsay Lohan appears to have lost her curves as she heads to the hair salon

Lost weight: Lindsay Lohan appears to have dropped a few pounds of her already slender frame as she left the hair salon yesterday


She had been looking much healthier in recent months but it appears that Lindsay Lohan might have taken her dieting a little too far.

The starlet looked super slim as she arrived at the Byron and Tracy salon yesterday to get her locks tended to.

The 25-year-old actress displayed thinner looking legs and jutting collar bones in a floral romper and heels as she headed into the Beverly Hills hairdresser.

The Mean Girls star also had her rib cage clearly visible through her chest, a sign that she has lost weight.

The actress has become known for her fluctuating weight, and this is not the first time the star has sparked concerns over her health.

After her weight plummeted in 2005 and she was admitted to hospital, Lindsay admitted she had become 'too thin'.

In a 2006 interview with Vanity Fair magazine, Lindsay said she realised she was too skinny when she watched herself host U.S. comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live.

She told the publication: 'My arms were disgusting. I had no arms.

'My sister, she was scared. My brother called me, crying.

'I was sick. Everyone was scared. And I was scared too.

'I had people sit me down and say, "You're going to die if you don't take care of yourself."'

Lindsay's Mean Girls co-star Tina Fey, a comedienne on Saturday Night Live, said: '(My co-star) Amy Poehler was good and tough on her saying, "You're too skinny ... I'm not going to ask you why, but you're too skinny and I don't like it."'

Just one day before her outing at the salon, Lindsay unveiled a new tattoo on her ribcage.

The troubled starlet has had the words from Billy Joel 1989 track I Go To Extremes inked on to her body.

'Clear as a crystal sharp as a knife, I feel like I'm in the prime of my life' have been etched onto her right ribcage.

She proudly showed off the work yesterday, pulling down her vest top to reveal the new addition under her bra line.

After breaking up with longtime girlfriend Samantha Ronson in 2009, she had the Marilyn Monroe quote, 'I restore myself when I'm alone', inked on her right wrist.

She also got the word 'Ssh' etched onto one of her index fingers after a night of partying with singer Lily Allen back in 2009.

Additionally, the star also has the number 7 on her neck and the word 'Breathe' scrawled on her wrist.

'I forget to breathe sometimes. This is my favourite one [tattoo]. It's white ink,' she said on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show.

The actress has been in and out of jail, on probation and forced to wear an alcohol monitoring ankle bracelet over the course of the past few years.

She has pleaded no contest to misdemeanour theft, which was lowered from a felony, as well as probation violation and sentenced to 120 days in prison and 480 hours of community service.

She was super jealous when Victoria Beckham had her love for David permanently inked on her wrist to commemorate their 10 year anniversary.

And by the looks of things, Katie Holmes may finally have (almost) followed suit.

The actress was spotted arriving at the Digital Domain Studios sporting what looked like a henna tattoo of two chains running parallel around her wrist.

The subtle design gave little away as to its meaning, but given Katie's envy of Victoria's anniversary token it's possible that the chains are related to her union with Tom.

Katie was very impressed by Victoria's tattoo, which reads: 'Together, Forever, Eternally.'

Considering her husband's misgivings, and the fact that the wrist is a relatively visible place to have a tattoo, it is likely that Katie has compromised with a henna substitute.

She and Tom have only been married for five years however, so perhaps Katie will opt for something more permanent when they reach a decade.

The 32 year old has apparently been dancing her way to a more slender frame at a Los Angeles studio.

And at home, she sticks to a very light menu of carrot soup, yam, broccoli, and a few almonds.

For anyone who says being an actor is a doss of a job, should take a look at Tom Hardy.

The British actor has clearly been battling a gruelling workout routine to build him up to villain stature.

Showing off his bulging biceps during a shopping trip in LA, it was also the width of his shoulders and bulk of his chest that looked intimidating.

While conversing with the actor, the security guard kept his hands glued in his pockets and the uniformed attendant stared with his mouth wide open.

The Londoner, born and raised in Hammersmith, has been beefing up to play the villain in the new Batman film.

Christian Bale reprises his role as Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight Rises, which also sees Anne Hathaway and Marion Cotillard aboard the ship.

This is not the first time the Bafta-winner has manipulated his physique for a role.

Despite starting out as a beanpole in his early career, he infamously gained weight to play the title character in 2009's Charles Bronson.

Hardy piled on 42lbs to portray the murder, level-pegging with Hollywood greats Robert DeNiro and Russell Crowe, who put on 60lbs and 63lbs respectively, for Raging Bull and Body Of Lies.

Megan Fox has revealed she is removing her tattoo of Marilyn Monroe in a bid to avoid attracting 'negative energy'.

The 25-year-old actress, whose acting career has floundered in recent years, began laser treatment on her forearm inking earlier this year.

She was quizzed about her etching of the iconic blonde bombshell, who died in 1962 at the age of 36, by Italian magazine Amica.

Fox, who was spotted on the set of This is 40 in LA today, explained: 'I'm removing it. It is a negative character, as she suffered from personality disorders and was bipolar.

'I do not want to attract this kind of negative energy in my life.'

It's not the only body adornment she has grown to regret.

When asked about her navel piercing, she said: 'I did it when I was 16-years-old because I was a fan of Britney Spears. The only time I tried to imitate someone else.

'But then I thought it was tacky and so I removed it when I turned 20.'

Former Transformers star Megan has around nine tattoos - other inkings include; a quote on her shoulder reading 'We will all laugh at gilded butterflies' and a tribal mark on her left wrist.

She also has a tribute to her Passion Play co-star Mickey Rourke, 57.

The tattoo, over the right side of her rib cage, reads: 'Those who danced were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.'

She told MTV.com: 'Mickey is such a beautiful, wonderful human being. He's so genuine and so sweet and so talented. I just love him to death.

'I actually got a tattoo that is sort of in honour of him. It's on my ribs.'

While the Passion Play actors hit it off, the film was not such a success - it flopped in spectacular fashion and went straight to DVD.

It was yet another blow to Megan's acting career, which has nosedived since she parted ways with the successful Transformers franchise.

She no doubt hoping to turn around her fortune with her new Judd Apatow project This Is 40, which also stars Chris O'Dowd and Jason Segal.

It is rumoured to be a spin off film from 2007 hit comedy Knocked Up which starred Seth Rogan and Katherine Heigl.

And the actress didn't rule out adding more children to her family.

The film is likely to be released in February next year.

The 28-year-old old, who married the former CSI actor in April, had her wedding vows written onto her ribcage at the Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago over the weekend.

She proudly showed off the stencil in the Miami Express Yourself Oasis and Express Rocks suite.

It reads: 'You gave me the courage to be truthful. I promise to give you the comfort to be trustful.'

Carve her name with pride! David Beckham has new inking on his neck in tribute to baby daughter Harper Seven

Love you tattoo much: David Beckham gave a tantalising glimpse of his new tattoo dedicated to new daughter Harper Seven in an interview for his club LA Galaxy this week


He's famously already got body art dedicated to his wife Victoria and sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz - so it was only a matter of time before David Beckham got a new inscription to mark the birth of daughter Harper Seven.

The couple’s first baby girl was born earlier this month and proud father David gave a teasing glimpse of the new inking on his neck this week during a television interview for his club LA Galaxy.

The new design appears to be of curled lettering, suggesting he has had Harper Seven's name inscribed in a fancy font.

The inking sits just above his tattoo of Jesus being carried by three cherubs, which are meant to symbolise sons Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, eight and Cruz, six.

Beckham said at the time: ‘It’s Jesus being carried by three cherubs and obviously the cherubs are my boys and so my thought of it is that at some point my boys are going to need to look after me and that’s what they’re doing in the picture. It means a lot.’

The 36-year-old LA Galaxy star is known for his array of tattoos, many of which are dedicated to his family.

As well as the cherubs David already has the names of his three boys and an inscription of Victoria’s name written in Hindi.

He also a six-inch tattoo of Victoria as an angel, accompanied with the words ‘til death do us part.’

David has previously said his tattoos are a way of expressing how he’s feeling, explaining: ‘Most of my tattoos are memories and things that mean things to me.

‘There's not one tattoo that I've got on me that doesn't mean something.’

The last time David went under the needle was in February, when he had the Jesus and the three cherubs drawn into his skin.

David also posted a video on Facebook explaining why he had the tattoo and what it represented.

That tattoo was the handy work of one of LA’s biggest tattoo artists, Mark Mahoney, who has worked on a long list of famous names who include Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and it's likely that the Harper Seven inking was courtesy of his hand too.

David is just another in a long line of celebrities who have only good words to say about Mark. He added: ‘He’s not a tattooist who goes on and does TV programmes. He’s low key and stays out of things and is very talented. ‘

Mahoney works in West Hollywood at the Shamrock Social Club on The Sunset Strip and says he prides himself on making his customer’s experiences as memorable as possible.

‘It’s called the Shamrock Social Club, not the Shamrock anti-social Club. People come here to relax and have a good time. People always remember the night they got tattooed. That’s one of the things you always remember in life, so I wanted to make that as memorable and as nice an experience as it ever could be.’

David first posted a picture of Mahoney working on his new tattoo back in December of last year. He Tweeted: ‘I want to let you all in on something. Just had a new tattoo done by the legendary Mark Mahoney.’

He added: ‘I had it done 3 months ago, before I left LA. I don’t plan on having a tattoo, but just sometimes I wake up with an idea or an image of what I would like on me.

‘It’s my way of expressing the way I’m feeling. Most of my tattoos are memories or things that mean a lot to me.

‘It was an 8-hour session which lasted until about 3 o’clock in the morning. I then went back a few weeks later and we did another 4 hours. It’s really is amazing.’

David has also revealed that his new baby daughter is already a stylista in the making.

The Beckhams’ first little girl already has a growing collection of fashionable garments, according to her proud father.

Mother Victoria, 37, has her own fashion range that has proved a big hit with celebrities, and yesterday her footballer father David revealed that baby Harper’s wardrobe was already packed.

Speaking about the two-week old baby girl, the former England captain, 36, said: ‘Everything Victoria’s put on her so far looks amazing, she's got a great wardrobe already.

‘My wife is going to definitely take care of that.’

And even though Victoria had to have a fourth caesarean, Beckham said the couple were still keen for ‘one more’ baby.

Speaking in a post-match interview, the LA Galaxy footballer said the couple would like to complete a five-a-side 'Team Beckham'.

He said: ‘Are we done now or will we see any more in the future? We'd like one more.

‘We've always said we'd love a big family and five was the number. If we're lucky enough, then we hope to have one more.

He added: 'Victoria's doing amazingly well. So we'll see.'

When asked how Harper Seven's older brothers were liking the family's newest addition, Beckham replied: ‘All the boys won't leave her alone, which is amazing.’

Despite currently working away from home, Beckham said he has been Skyping with Harper, adding: ‘I can't wait to get home to see her and my boys and my wife.

‘It's different having a little girl. She's elegant. She sleeps in an elegant position.’

As for her genes, it appears Harper takes after mum Victoria.

'She's a mixture of all three of the boys actually. She's got Victoria's nose thankfully,' Beckham said.
