Kerry Katona 'wipes out her debt with her £350,000 Celebrity Big Brother pay cheque'

She has been living with the burden of bankruptcy for three years now.

But embattled Kerry Katona has finally freed herself from her enormous debts following her stint on this year's Celebrity Big Brother.

The 31-year-old used money from her hefty £350,000 appearance fee to settle the remainder of her debt, which at one point reached £417,000.


The Sunday Mirror reports that the mother-of-four can once again apply for a mortgage and credit cards after paying off the money she owed collectors recently.

A friend of the star told the paper: 'She's really chuffed. She put her head down, worked hard and done the right thing.

'The people in charge of her bankruptcy thought she would blow all her Big Brother money but she handed it over to them to settle her debt.'

Katona also appeared on the last season of Dancing On Ice to supplement the income she receives from her weekly magazine column.

Katona split from her management at CAN Associates, who used to help pay her £3,500 a month rent, in June.

In 2008 Katona was declared bankrupt despite reportedly earning £75,000 a year as the face of supermarket chain Iceland and £400,000 a year as a columnist for OK! Magazine.

Katona was dropped from her lucrative Iceland contract in 2009 following her drugs scandal.

At one point her fortune was estimated to be £6.8m but extravagant spending reportedly reduced this significantly.

She married taxi driver Mark Croft in February 2007 and reportedly bought him a Ferrari, two BMW's, two Range Rovers, a Lamborghini, four Porsches, two Aston Martins, an Audi and two superbikes worth an estimated £1.5m.

Following their split at the beginning of 2010, Croft publicly declared he had 'bled her dry'. Katona told This Morning that she had initiated a police investigation into what happened to her fortune during her marriage to Croft.

She was spotted smoking a cigarette immediately upon leaving the ITV studios today after appearing on Loose Women.


The 31-year-old seemed desperate for her fix as she lit up the second she walked out of the door.

She was determined to lose weight ahead of her stint on Celebrity Big Brother and has become more motivated than ever since leaving the house.

She was seen practising her punches with Danielle, who playfully collapsed to the floor during the exercise to show her exhaustion - while Kerry collapsed into laughter at her friend's lack of enthusiasm.

The mother-of-four's weight has frequently fluctuated and seen her become something of a yo-yo dieter.


Despite undergoing a major health kick last year which saw her drop to a size eight, Kerry put the weight back on through comfort eating after splitting with her management company.

She tried a series of workouts including hiring a personal trainer and attending Zumba dance classes in the run-up to Big Brother, but now Kerry seems to have settled on notoriously intensive bootcamp.

They sparked romance rumours during their time in the Celebrity Big Brother house.

And now Kerry Katona and Lucien Laviscount have given an interview about their relationship, with mother-of-four Kerry admitting that she and Lucien are 'friends with benefits'.

The 31-year-old star also reveals she could see herself marrying her Waterloo Road beau, but does admit the 12-year age gap between them could cause a problem.


Kerry told OK! magazine: 'Lucien has it all - he's a geek, intelligent, loveable, great for cuddles, understanding. He is everything all rolled into one. But I don't think I'm his type.

'I've got four kids and he's 19. My eldest is 10 - her step-dad would only be nine years older than her. I'm sure I could get locked up for that! If he was a little older, then yes, I'd destroy him! The age gap is definitely holding us back.'

But when Kerry told the publication she feels as though she is 'past her sell by date', Lucien was quick to disagree.

Kerry, who kissed Lucien on several occasions during the pair's time in the Celebrity Big Brother house, also added she found it difficult at times to cope with the sexual tension between her and Lucien.

She said: 'There was a lot of sexual tension, definitely. If the cameras hadn't been there, God knows what would have happened!'

But despite the age gap, Kerry admitted she could see herself having a future with Lucien.

She joked: 'Marry me Lucien! Lucien is very giving. He's one of these guys who would give you a kiss and a cuddle, a cup of tea, put petals in the bath - the small things I'd want in a husband.'

Asked if something would happen when the pair met up next time, Kerry replied: 'If there are no kids about? Yeah! We are friends, though. We're friends with benefits!'

Lucien also took the opportunity to deny a romance with Amy Childs, who he had also been flirting with during his time in the house.

He said: 'I didn't get to know her at all. We were in there just being ourselves and she just kept using the the airtime to talk about headlines.

'I felt like a pawn in a game.'

'But (Mark Croft) was a complete t*t who ripped me off, spent all my money and used and abused me.'

But Kerry Katona has piled the pounds back on since she split from her management company as she comfort ate her way through junk food meals.

But as Celebrity Big Brother looms, Kerry, who is believed to be one of the contestants, is on a major health kick before the show starts to lose some weight in an attempt to look good on camera.


Kerry, 30, has told her friends that she is 'desperate' to be a size eight again, a size she manage to stick to while training for Dancing On Ice, and has kicked the booze and takeaways in order to slim down.

Speaking to Closer magazine, one said Kerry was worried about looking fat next to former TOWIE star Amy Childs, 21, who is also believed to be entering the Big Brother house when the series returns soon on Channel 5.

They said: 'Kerry is worried about looking old and frumpy next to Amy. She's put herself on a strict diet of salads and low-fat soups to get to a size 8.

Another friend told the magazine: 'Kerry's other worry is that she knows there'll be booze on CBB and she's scared she'll reveal too much about her chaotic life if she has a drink. She can't keep her mouth shut after even one drink. And she gets a bit frisky too!'

She is drug-free, living a fit and healthy lifestyle and enjoying a career revival.

So it understandable that Kerry Katona would want to be free once and for all from the home she shared with the man she blames for the darkest period in her life, ex Mark Croft.

Kerry has finally sold the Wilmslow mansion the couple lived in during their marriage, but the financially-troubled star has suffered a £200,000 loss on the sale.


The 30-year-old Dancing On Ice contestant purchased the Cheshire mansion in 2007 for £1,225,000, according to the Mirror.

She is finally rid of the home, filled with painful memories, but made a substantial loss in the deal after accepting £1,025,000.

The reality star is currently renting a £3 million mansion in Surrey for a staggering £5,500 a month.

The six-bedroom boasts an indoor swimming pool, gym, spa and cinema room.

Kerry sold her five-bedroom, red-brick pile in Wilmslow to footballer Glenn Whelan, the Mirror reports.

It holds bad memories for the star - the bathroom was the setting of her infamous cocaine-snorting video in 2009 and in 2007 she was held captive in the house by three armed burglars.

A spokesperson for Katona was unavailable for comment.

After the pair's split, the 27-year-old has opened up about his discomfort with the constant attention, Kerry's 'fake' friends and their relationship away from the media.

'I've been to university, I'm a qualified chartered surveyor. I don't want to give that up just be known as Mr Kerry Katona,' Dan insists.


In an interview with Reveal, Foden says: 'I feel really sorry for Kerry. She's a great girl, but I honestly think she's really lonely and a bit homesick. Everything she says seems to be geared towards publicity, but I find it embarrassing. I don't want to do any of that.

He adds: 'When I started seeing her, I was just concentrating on Kerry. I'd met someone new and it was nice. Kerry is a lovely girl. But I'm just a normal bloke. I'm not the next Jack Tweed.'

The former dating show contestant also blames Kerry's life in the spotlight for the reason for the split. 'Kerry's world is just too mad,' he told the magazine. She's a lovely girl, but I can't live in that showbiz bubble.'

'We'd only been on one or two dates but next things I know I'm her boyfriend. There was no grey period.

When we were on our own, inside the four walls, things were great. We have a similar sense of humour and had a good laugh.

'I think she's a great girl but it's a total clash of worlds and I couldn't see it working out.'

Dan's account of being uncomfortable in front of the cameras appears to clash with a tabloid paper's recent allegations that he was only dating the mother-of-four to raise his profile.

The News Of The World claimed earlier this month that Warrington-born Dan was still in a secret relationship with girlfriend Katie Wray and was using Katona to find fame and launch a modelling career.

The paper quoted Dan telling pals: ‘It’s all made up rubbish. I’ve not been s****ing her. I’ve got this model thing, that’s all I want to do.’

‘If it f*****g gets me where I need to get I will do, won’t I?’

The trio were trailed by their ever-present film crew, who helpfully chronicled every fun-filled moment for Katona's ITV2 reality series.

The series follows Kerry rebuilding her life and career after getting clean from drugs, including her stint on Dancing On Ice.

Perhaps Kerry just wanted some quality time with her girls in the midst of all the news stories circulating about the men in her life.
