A fleeting affair with girl 19 years his junior, now Hugh's a daddy

Hugh Grant has become a father for the first time after a former girlfriend gave birth following a ‘fleeting affair’.

The actor, 51, has had a daughter with Tinglan Hong, who is 19 years his junior.
The pregnancy was not planned and the child, who has not been named, is now five weeks old.

Grant is not believed to have been present at the birth but he is said to have spent around half an hour with her the following day before heading to Scotland to play in a golf tournament.

Despite U.S. reports last night claiming that Miss Hong gave birth at the beginning of October, the Daily Mail has been told that she had the child on the afternoon of September 26.

The baby was delivered at the private Portland Hospital in central London by Caesarean section. It is believed the mother used the name ‘Sophie’ Hong during her stay at the hospital.

Grant - who previously dated Liz Hurley and Jemima Khan and has a reputation as a commitment-phobe - had a short-lived relationship with Miss Hong, who is Chinese and said to be an actress.

But they are no longer together and last night his spokesman said: 'I can confirm that Hugh Grant is the delighted father of a baby girl. He and the mother had a fleeting affair and while this was not planned, Hugh could not be happier or more supportive.

'He and the mother have discussed everything and are on very friendly terms.'

The identity of the mother was not disclosed in the statement, nor were details of the couple’s relationship.

However, Miss Hong - who had been living in Merton, south London - is said to have moved close to Grant’s £3million home in Fulham, South-West London. According to Westminster Register Office, the birth had still not been registered yesterday.

Legally, it has to be registered by next Monday.

Grant and Miss Hong met last year and began dating in January. Their relationship is said to have petered out soon after she fell pregnant.

Last month a heavily pregnant Miss Hong was photographed strolling in London in a baggy pink and white top and a cream cardigan.

On the day that Miss Hong gave birth, the actor - who rose to fame in Four Weddings And A Funeral and is estimated to be worth £40million - was at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool.

He even posed for a photograph with deputy leader Harriet Harman after she congratulated him for ‘bravely speaking out’ about the phone-hacking scandal which led to the closure of the News Of The World.

Hugh was seen playing in the Alfred Dunhill Links Golf Championships in St Andrews the day after his daughter was born


Following his trip to see the child, he headed to Scotland. On September 28, he teed off alongside professional David Howell at annual celebrity golf tournament The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

This was the same event at which Miss Hurley announced her engagement to cricketer Shane Warne, who proposed over dinner.

Grant spent four days at the event, although his involvement in the tournament ended after three rounds.

But some questioned his decision to go to the tournament so soon after the birth.
One source close to Grant was reported to have told a U.S. website last night: ‘He’s going to be a great dad! He’s beaming about his daughter. He’s not with the mum any more but he’s absolutely thrilled.’

Four years ago Grant told glossy magazine Vogue he was ready to be a father, saying: ‘As much as I adore myself, I’m quite keen to find someone else to care about more. I remember reading a Warren Beatty quote when he finally had children and said what a relief it was not to be all me, me, me.’

At the beginning of last year, Grant told a Spanish TV show: ‘I have some resolutions like losing some pounds. I also need to get married and have children. I need a new house.’

And in September last year he said he ‘should settle down’ and that he wished he had children.

He also revealed he was attracted to Chinese women after a visit to the country last year where he had ‘fallen in love four times’ in 24 hours.

Grant – who has never married -– has starred in films including About A Boy and Notting Hill.

In 1995, he starred alongside Julianne Moore in the film Nine Months, which told the story of a commitment-phobe who finds out his long-term girlfriend is pregnant.

The actor dated Miss Hurley, now 46, for 13 years before they split in 2000, five years after he was caught cheating with Hollywood prostitute Divine Brown.

He and socialite Miss Khan, now 37, then dated for three years from 2004.

New fears have emerged for heartbroken Demi Moore after she was spotted leaving a salon in Beverly Hills looking painfully thin.

The 48-year-old was visiting a nail salon ahead of a Halloween party, in a valiant attempt to try and maintain normality.

But it was clear that the mother-of-three is struggling to come to terms with the disintegration of her marriage to Ashton Kutcher, 33.


Two and a Half Men star Kutcher allegedly cheated on Moore with a 23-year-old woman named Sara Leal at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego last month, on the same night of their sixth wedding anniversary.

Moore, who turns 49 on November 11, was among the party-goers at actor Mike Meldman's Halloween bash in Beverly Hills on Friday.

The actress and a bevy of female friends partied late into the night alongside such stars as Cameron Diaz, directors Eli Roth and Todd Phillips plus reality star Brittny Gastineau.

Fears are growing that her dramatic weight loss could cause permanent damage to her health.

Demi has longed to give Ashton a baby since they got married in 2005, gushing about it as recently as January.

But the latest addition to the clan being amassed between Moore and her ex-husband and father of her three girls, Bruce Willis, 56 , will be born to his new wife, Emma Hemming, 33.

'Emma is living Demi’s dream,' a source told Life & Style magazine.

Things had seemed to be looking up for Ashton and Demi, as it was reported that she visited him on the set of the hit show with her eldest daughter, Rumer Willis.

'Demi didn't come on the actual shooting set or anything - she never does - but she spent the day on the lot in his massive trailer,' a source told Us Weekly.

The reports came two weeks after the couple were pictured together in public for the first time since the affair claims became public at the end of September.

Demi and Ashton were spotted leaving their marital home in Los Angeles, apparently on the way to a counselling session at the Beverly Hills centre for the Kabbalah religious group.

Earlier in the month photographs emerged of the pair sat around a camp fire at a Kabbalah retreat in Santa Barbara in California.

The 30-year-old star even put her changing shape to her advantage, choosing a costume which would make the most of her rounder figure.

The Run The World singer donned yellow and black stripes to become an adorable bumble bee.


Teaming her puffed-out gilet with some striking bee-striped heels, Beyonce's eye-catching outfit made her unmissable as she left the Darby restaurant in New York last night.

The star showed off her toned legs in some very brief black shorts, and completed her outfit with a cute antennae headband.

Beyonce avoided anything clingy to show her changing figure too clearly, having recently sparked questions due to her bump's marked absence from her latest music video, Party.

Not to be outdone, Hilary Duff, who is due to give birth to a baby boy in March, went undercover in a burglar's outfit alongside her husband, NHL star Mike Comrie.

Her children Sparrow and Harlow looked adorable in fancy dress, with Sparrow, two, in a bright pumpkin outfit and three-year-old Harlow, wearing a bright pink fairy princess costume.

Despite their wealth and cloistered lifestyles, even celebrities are not immune to the bite of the cold, as Katie Holmes proved yesterday.

To be fair, the 32-year-old could've hidden away in a trailer on the set of husband Tom Cruise's latest film in Pittsburgh.

But the dutiful wife, there to support Tom, 49 , on One Shot, and the couple's four-year-daughter wanted to see their loved one in action.


So decked out in adorable matching fluffy cape jackets, Katie in dark brown and Suri is polar white, they waited.

Katie held two cups which no doubt contained warm liquid to warm their cockles, and a few blankets.

As they both shivered, Katie's nose appeared to turn Rudolph red - indicating just how bitter the weather is in Pennsylvania.

But it was all worth it when Tom took a break in filming and nipped over to visit his girls.

He and Katie shared a look of mutual affection after he finished filming action scenes.

Speaking to InStyle US magazine earlier this year the 32-year-old admitted being embarrassed about pictures of Suri walking around in winter without a coat.

She told the magazine: 'Recently, Suri and I were taking a walk and a fight got started because it was cold outside and she didn't want to wear her coat.

My philosophy is, well, fine, because after a block of walking you're going to ask me for your coat.

'So the pictures of her [without a coat in cold weather] are sort of embarrassing, but I said, "Suri, I'll take the hit. Just put it on when you get cold".'

Katie insists she doesn't feel pressure to give Suri a little brother or sister. 'We already have a very big family; a full household with cousins who are over a lot,' she says. 'My biggest thing is making sure she's fully taken care of and doing well.'

According to Grazia a coat could be just the tip of the iceberg for new accessories for Suri as the magazine reported Tom has been stocking up on pricey jewels for his family for years,

And now, the magazine alleges that he is eyeballing pieces from Elizabeth Taylor jaw-dropping collection, due to go under the hammer this year.

Suri's jewels currently include a replica of her mother's five-carat diamond and rose gold engagement ring and a charm bracelet worn by Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins.
