A slice of Hollywood glitz and glamour has descended on one of London’s leafiest suburbs – with movie stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie setting up home in Richmond- on-Thames.

Oscar winner Sandra Bullock is living just around the corner, while George Clooney has only just moved out of the neighbourhood.

Brad and Angelina, along with their six children, are staying in a lavish £10million home owned by the widow of a fashion tycoon.


Tucked away behind wooden gates, the six-bedroom property stands among surburban terraced houses, with Ford Fiestas and Nissan Micras on the drives.

The owner is known in Hollywood circles for providing one of the most

discreet residences for actors to use while filming at nearby Shepperton studios.

Its location has turned the historic home into a mecca for stars of silver screen, who flock to rent it for an estimated £30,000 a month.

Among the big names who have quietly rented the widow’s home are Pirates Of The Caribbean star Johnny Depp, 48, who lived there while filming in London.

Veteran actor Michael Douglas, 66, and his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, 41 have also stayed at the house. Celebrity tenants appreciate the luxurious interior in an unassuming location just ten minutes from the film studios.

Now Brad and Angelina can mingle with Sandra Bullock at the local Marks & Spencer, after she coincidentally moved into a home that backs on to their garden.

Brad and Angelina have repeatedly been seen in the West End over the past few weeks. And Angelina, 36, was spotted popping into a toy shop in Richmond to buy her children presents, including water pistols and pretend money.

Brad, 47, is in the capital filming his new zombie movie, World War Z. He is also producing the film, an adaption of Max Brooks’s novel.

Miss Congeniality star Sandra, 47, has jetted in from America to work on her latest film too.

Heart-throb George Clooney, 50, was living at another house nearby in Richmond last month while filming.

His stay coincided with that of Keanu Reeves, 46, who was over to work on his new Samurai drama, 47 Ronin.

A source said: ‘It has been the best-kept secret for years for many of the Hollywood stars that if they stayed in relatively normal houses in the suburbia of Richmond, they could go around undetected.

‘Johnny Depp always tries to use the house Brad and Angelina are in at the moment because it just doesn’t stick out and is very private and discreet inside. Yet the house is steeped in history.’

The owner and her tycoon husband bought the popular property seven years ago for just under £4 million.

It is full of old ship timbers and boasts secret cupboards and panels throughout the house.

Despite its sense of history, the residence has been completely renovated. The Hollywood guests enjoy home-from-home touches including ultra-modern bathrooms, a gym and a sauna.

The house also has a large heated indoor swimming pool complete with its own changing rooms, and a large barn-style annexe which has two bedrooms and a kitchenette.

There was no tongue stud, thank goodness. No upstaging strumpet of a maid of honour. No horses, ceremonial or otherwise.

But the big shock was that Zara the rebel, the ordinary working girl (she has a job, and a difficult one at that; there is no more dangerous sport than eventing) has finally been tamed.

She didn’t just look pretty and romantic, when we have all become used to her wearing jeans stuffed into kinky boots and a stained rugby shirt covered in green slobber; she was wearing a gown designed by her granny’s favourite designer!

The ivory silk faille and duchess satin gown was made by Stewart Parvin, the Royal couturier who dresses not only the Queen – she wore his peachy pink coat and matching dress yesterday – but also Princess Anne from his atelier in Motcomb Street, in London’s Belgravia.

Parvin studied fashion at Edinburgh College of Art, then worked for society couturier Donald Campbell.

His trademark is not just simple, elegant bridalwear with few flounces, but an ability to dress rather thick-waisted matrons, covering up the bits of their bodies they’d rather keep hidden.

He has never sent a model down the catwalk wearing a bondage mask, or called a collection Highland Rape. Unlike Alexander McQueen, the late designer whose label made Kate Middleton’s gown for that other Royal Wedding, Parvin is not cerebral or dangerous or cutting edge. And amen to that.

Although Kate Middleton’s wedding gown, by McQueen’s successor Sarah Burton, was dramatic, with its teardrop train, this dress, which cost about £7,000, a fifth of the price of a McQueen, is far softer and prettier.

A corset gave Zara a small waist, while her rather wide shoulders were softened by the almost sheer silk tulle concertina straps with raw edges; I’m so glad she didn’t go strapless, a style that can make athletes look a little hulking.

All in all, I’m rather glad Zara eschewed going ‘designer’, having decided to leave promoting the British fashion business to Kate, who at the moment doesn’t have much else to do. I like that Zara is going straight back into training, isn’t changing her name (it would confuse the horses), and surely won’t contemplate getting pregnant until after the Olympics.

This out-of-character, rather safe choice of couturier for her big day (I’d sort of imagined her in a draped, dramatic, over-the-top gown by Vivienne Westwood, with a tartan sash) shows a new air of maturity and confidence.

Finally, she has decided that being part of the Royal Family is not so bad, after all.

Parvin’s order book will now be full for months if not years to come – American fashion websites are already going crazy, while I’ve just been called by a buyer from Barney’s, desperate for Parvin’s mobile number – not just because of this latest Royal patronage, but because, best of all, his dress did not upstage the bride . . .

Now for my verdict on the guests...

With nearly 11 million viewers, the first series of Downton Abbey was last year’s big drama hit for ITV1. And series two — scheduled for early autumn — has all the ingredients for another Sunday-night blockbuster. The action begins in 1916: it’s World War I and Downton Abbey (‘played’ by Highclere Castle in Berkshire) has been turned into a convalescent home by Cora, Countess of Grantham (Elizabeth McGovern). ‘Each character is profoundly affected in ways they don’t expect,’ says Elizabeth, ‘and for some of the women it’s actually very liberating.’

Newcomer Amy Nuttall, who plays new housemaid Ethel, says, ‘The “downstairs” scenes are filmed at Ealing Studios, so it’s rare but lovely when both the servants and “upstairs” are all here at Highclere’

Tears of Sarajevo: Angelina Jolie wells up as she is honoured at Bosnian Film Festival

Tears: Angelina welled up on stage at the 17th annual Sarajevo Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina last night as she was honoured with an award for her film In The Land Of Blood And Honey

Angelina was nearly moved to tears last night as she was honoured at an award ceremony in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The actress who turned up to the 17th Sarajevo Film Festival unannounced with her partner Brad Pitt, at the city's National Theatre, couldn't contain her emotion as she was presented with a heart-shaped award at the closing ceremony.

Clearly humbled, the 36-year-old welled up as she took to the stage as the crowd gave her a standing ovation.

'I will start crying if you don't stop,' she said in a quivering voice.

'I told Brad in the car I was afraid I was going to cry.'

'I am so honoured to be here at this festival. There is no greater example of the strengths of the artists and the festival that began during the war and grew stronger every year, ' she added.

Angelina was honoured for her directorial début, In The Land Of Blood And Honey.

She filmed the drama, which tells the tale of 'how a couple's romance is affected by the 1992-95 Bosnian War,' in the Eastern European country last year.

'Tonight we are giving the honorary Heart of Sarajevo to a great artist, not only for the great impact she has in the world of cinema but also for persisting and her active engagement in the complexities of the real world we live in,' said Festival Director Mirsad Purivatra as he presented Angelina with the award.

The actress slipped into a floor-length peach gown slit to the thigh, for the occasion.

In the past, her involvements in Bosnia have not stopped short of her film.
The philanthropist has also visited the war torn country as a ambassador for the U.N.'s refugee agency UNHCR.

The festival was a hop, skip, and an aeroplane ride from London, where Brad and Angelina have laid their roots temporarily while the actor films post-apocalyptic horror film World War Z.

Mother-of-six Angelina has been having a ball sight-seeing and shopping with the couple's six children.

This week the Salt actress took two of her children, Shiloh, five, and Zahara, six, to The Toy Station store in Richmond, where they loaded up on a number of items, including toy currency.

A Toy Station worker told the Mail Online that Ange and her daughters arrived at the store with their bodyguard and happily browsed with other customers.

'Once the other customers had left her bodyguard politely asked if we could close the doors while they shopped,' the worker revealed.

They added: 'The girls were very well behaved and Miss Jolie was very attentive to the children. She was very nice, calm and down to earth. A very natural family.'

The actress bought a number of cap guns and joke items such as water-squirting cameras as well as the fake money.

The actress' bodyguard and a community support officer helped hold the fans and photographers at bay as the smiling trio, Angelina looking chic in a beige top and skirt and matching wedges, left the store.

'But with Kris, I was totally myself from the get-go.

He was performing with his band, whose hits include A Certain Romance and Brianstorm, while she was presenting. But the couple weren’t seen together off stage.

At the time, they denied an imminent split but now friends say the relationship is over.

Alexa, 27, has moved out of the apartment they shared in Williamsburg, New York, while 25-year-old Alex is on a world tour with the Arctic Monkeys until January.

‘Alexa has moved all her stuff out and is concentrating on getting her American TV career back on track,’ says a source.

‘Alex has gigs in America next month, but none of them are on the East Coast.

'Then he is planning a UK tour. They are very busy and have grown apart, but want to keep the news quiet.’

Alexa’s spokesperson said: ‘Sadly Alexa and Alex have split, although they remain close.’

Zara's elegant dress transforms her into quintessential English bride

The blushing bride chose a full skirted gown with a row of covered buttons, and wore her mother's tiara to complete the elegant look


She is the royal known for her unconventional dress sense, with leopard print hats, a pierced tongue and plenty of cleavage her trademark.

Today though, the Queen's granddaughter put aside her more outlandish image and transformed into a quintessential English bride.

Her dress, by the Queen's own couturier Stewart Parvin, was a picture of elegant sophistication.

It was expected that Zara would wear a traditional gown - more classically beautiful and less high fashion that Catherine Middleton's Sarah Burton gown - and she did not disappoint.

The full gown was created in ivory duchess silk and softly ribbed faille, the skirt given volume with acres of stiff lace beneath. The corseted bodice of the gown ending in dramatic pleats on its dropped waist and sculpted the bride's slim figure, giving a dramatic bell-shaped silhouette.

The epitome of elegance: With silk tulle straps, a full skirt and a cathedral length veil, Zara looked gorgeous


Rather than the cropped jacket Zara was tipped to wear, she gave the gown the more demure touch that the royal occasion demanded.

The dress was crafted in faille, a softly ribbed silk. The chevron-pleated bodice ended in dramatic pleats on its dropped waist.

Silk tulle straps formed a V-shape at the back of the gown, with bias-cut raw-edged ribbons in silk faille and duchesse satin decorating the neckline and empire seam below the bust and finishing the hem of the dress. The full skirt featured concealed pockets.

Her full, cathedral length veil, pulled over her face as she arrived on the arm of her father Mark Phillips, was held in place by the Greek Key tiara, lent to Zara by her mother, Princess Anne.

The Princess Royal received it as a gift from the Queen in 1972, and wore it often during her engagement to Mark Phillips.

Zara's hair and make up beneath that statement veil were simple and natural.

A girl after her mother's heart, Zara is a creature of habit when it comes to her hair, and today was no exception.

She wore her hair as she usually does for formal events - in a classic French twist - which she had created by Evangelos Tsiapkinis from the Mayfair salon MichaelJohn.

Zara is said to have chosen the Stewart Parvin gown from wedding boutique White Room in Minchinhampton.

The designer, who christens his dresses with such romantic names as Easy To Love and I've Got a Crush On You, seemed to have hit the mark today, as Zara appeared relaxed and happy - surely the goal of any bride on her big day.

Stewart Parvin was also behind the Queen's dress.

The three young bridesmaids wore white - echoing the bridesmaids at the wedding of Catherine and WIlliam - and the full-skirted dresses cinched with pale china blue ribbon featured columns of covered buttons running down the back, reminiscent of the detailing on the back of Pippa Middleton's now iconic bridesmaid dress.

Mother-of-the-bride Princess Anne performed impeccably from a style point of view, wearing a swishy coral pleated skirt with a vintage-inspired cropped jacket (knowing thrifty Anne, it could well really be vintage), its floral print adding the right amount of levity to the neat tailoring.

As ever, her hair was styled in the usual immaculate bouffant, topped off with a fascinator that matched the coral skirt.
